Kevin Bennett was wanted for a string of sexual assaults in Philadelphia when he was caught by Indianapolis police and tied to the violent rape that occurred in Indianapolis in April 2021.
Court records reveal the victim had returned home to a residential building in downtown Indianapolis on April 2, 2021, when Bennett lured her into the lobby. There, Bennett struck her on the head with a firearm before dragging her into a bathroom in the basement. Bennett then sexually assaulted the woman.
A condom wrapper left at the scene tied Bennett to the crime. Investigators were able to collect a fingerprint from the wrapper that identified Bennett as the suspect. He was taken into custody in May 2021.
“We are indebted to this survivor whose courage and bravery ultimately put an end the defendant’s heinous series of assaults that spread across the country. The sentence ordered today guarantees the defendant will never be able to victimize women or anyone in our communities again,” said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears.
A jury found Bennett guilty of three counts of rape, one count of kidnapping, one count of criminal confinement and one count of battery by means of a deadly weapon.
After the trial, Bennett pleaded guilty to the habitual sentencing enhancement. This added additional time to his sentence, resulting in Bennett being handed a 108-year prison term.
