City officials reported that water levels are sufficient to begin transferring water into Lake Fort Phantom Hill from the Brazos River. However, a pipeline failure occurred as the city began this process on April 21. Repairs must be completed before operations can continue.
The scalping process involves using large pumps to divert water from a river to a connecting lake at a higher elevation. It is not an everyday occurrence, as this process relies on things such as river flow, rainfall, reservoir capacity, costs and more.
The city will update residents about the repairs and any collected water. As of May 7, the lake is 73% full.
