Breaking down the Omega Block: What it is and why it matters

• Areas under the ridge can experience heatwaves or drought conditions.

• Regions under the troughs may see extended periods of rain, storms, or even snow, depending on the season.

Meteorologists keep a close eye on omega blocks because they signal high-impact, and potentially drastic weather patterns. Farmers, emergency managers, and city planners all pay attention to these events to prepare for prolonged heat, drought, or even flooding.
