‘Zero tolerance’: 205 arrested in national FBI child sex predator operation, including 3 Oregon men

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – More than 200 alleged pedophiles are in custody across the U.S. following an FBI crackdown that involved three arrests in Oregon, according to state officials.

On Wednesday, the Department of Justice announced the results of a national project called Operation Restore Justice. Over the course of five days, 55 FBI field offices worked to track and arrest child sex predators.

The operation led to 205 arrests and 115 rescued children, according to the DOJ.

Three of these arrests took place in Oregon and included 54-year-old Robert Andrew Arias, 40-year-old Berret J. Brown, and 35-year-old Michael Joseph Cambalik.

Arias was arrested in Salem on April 28 and faces charges of distributing, receiving and possessing child pornography. His trial is set for July 1.

Brown of Vida, Ore., was charged with enticing minors, receiving child pornography, using a minor to produce a visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct and transferring obscene matter to a minor. His trial is set for Aug. 5.

“Between July and August 2024, Brown is alleged to have used Snapchat to entice multiple children into producing and sending him sexually explicit videos,” officials said. “Brown is also alleged to have used Roblox, a children’s online video game platform, to connect with minors.”

In Beaverton, Cambalik was charged with sexually exploiting a minor, receiving child pornography and coercing and enticing a minor. His arraignment is expected to take place on May 29.

“In December 2024, Cambalik, posing as a female minor, is alleged to have used Call of Duty, an internet-connected video game, to meet and coerce a then-nine-year-old child to produce and send him sexually explicit photos and videos,” officials said.

Other cases in the U.S. involved crimes of producing, distributing, and possessing child sexual abuse material as well as online enticement and transportation of minors and child sex trafficking. 

“The FBI has zero tolerance for criminal actors who target the most vulnerable in our community— our children,” said Douglas A. Olson, FBI Portland’s Special Agent in Charge. “While we count Operation Restore Justice as a success, our work continues. We will use every resource available to us to pursue those who prey on children, as well as to help victims of abuse access tools to help them heal.”
