San Jose officer stabbed while arresting suspect carrying machete

(KRON) – A San Jose Police Department officer was stabbed by a suspect during an arrest Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

San Jose police responded to Coleman Avenue and Taylor Street at 9:49 a.m. Officers were responding to a report of a disturbance involving a weapon.

Police learned that a suspect had brandished a machete at an armed security guard at a business. The suspect subsequently discarded the machete and fled on foot, said SJPD.

Arriving officers found the suspect nearby and began to arrest him. In the arrest, police said the suspect stabbed an officer in the arm.

Both the suspect and the officers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

SJPD said the case is ongoing.

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan responded to the stabbing on X. The mayor said, “How many more near misses do we need?” The mayor continued, “Today, I’m praying for the quick recovery of our officer. Every day, I’m advocating for urgent action from the County to expand the mental health and addiction treatment we need.”
