Standing in Southeastern’s way of a regional appearance is top-seeded McNeese, a team that bested the Lady Lions in a three-game series last month.
“It’s always a battle against them over the last few years, but at the same time, even though we respect them, we’re focused on us and what we do from a system standpoint. But there’s a lot to hang our hat on with that. We’re the only team over the last four years that’s competed for a conference championship in the tournament and made it to the championship game. They were told that this week, and we’re going there to do our job,” said Southeastern head softball coach Rick Fremin.
The Lady Lions and Cowgirls meet in the conference’s first best-of-three championship series this week in Lake Charles.
Game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday night.
A win Thursday would tie the school record for wins in a single season (47) that Fremin and company set last year in the Tuscaloosa Regional.
A series victory over McNeese would break that record and secure the Lady Lions’ spot in the NCAA Tournament.
