Barnwell, S.C. (WJBF) Tammy Rohrbaugh is helping her 7th and 8th graders get ready for the real world. They’re only in middle school, but it is never too early to learn how to navigate daily life off campus.

“We were working on our money skills, the next dollar approach,” Rohrbaugh says. “So that when children go into the child to buy something they’ll be able to do that successfully.

Ms. Rohrbaugh says God led her to this job.

“Freshman year of high school. I’ve always known.”
“It was a calling. I started out in general education. And then I switched over to special education. That is my true calling, working with special needs children.”

And after 34 years in the classroom, she’s not about to slow down.

“I’m going to keep doing it as long as I’m able. Each day I’m granted an opportunity, positively to touch the lives of my children, I love it.”

Ms. Rohrbaugh made sure to give credit to her colleagues at Guinyard-Butler Middle. They pushed hard to make sure she got this award.

“I’m overwhelmed,” she says. “I’m overwhelmed. I am so touched. This, I’m almost speechless.”
