Drier air arrives for northern Utah, meanwhile scattered showers continue across central & southern Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Tuesday, Utah! It was a wet start to our morning across northern Utah, as southern Utah saw a brief break from the shower activity.

Our Tuesday afternoon has brought a reversal to that setup with drier air for northern Utah, and scattered showers re-developing across southwest Utah. We’re looking at partly cloudy skies for the rest of our Tuesday with a chance for isolated showers for areas north of I-70, and scattered showers remaining likely for areas to the south of I-70.

Tuesday night, we will be watching for the potential for down-sloping canyon winds to develop. This could lead to some isolated wind gusts between 40-50 mph, especially near Farmington, Centerville, and the mouth of Weber Canyon. A Wind Advisory has been issued for Tuesday evening through early Wednesday morning for this threat.

Wednesday will feature partly sunny skies across the Beehive State. A little residual moisture will allow for a slight chance for an isolated shower or two, but most of the region will begin to dry out in a big way. High temperatures will climb into the lower 70s across the Wasatch Front, with highs in the upper 70s for SW Utah.

A high-pressure ridge will expand across the region Thursday into the weekend, leading to plenty of sunshine and a big warm-up with our temperatures. Daytime highs are expected to climb into the upper 70s for the Wasatch Front on Thursday, and mid-80s for SW Utah.

But wait, it gets even warmer as we move into the weekend. High temperatures along the Wasatch Front will be in the 80s this weekend, with afternoon highs across SW Utah warming into the mid-90s!

We should remain mostly dry during this period, but a few pop-up daytime heating showers will be possible for northern Utah during this time.

Our next weather maker looks to arrive next week, bringing more active skies and cooler conditions by next Tuesday.

We’ll keep you up-to-date on the latest developments in our 4Warn Weather forecast, both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!
