Cole Stromboe keeps Southeastern’s first place hopes alive with big senior day performance

HAMMOND, La. — Cole Stromboe’s clutch capabilities shined the brightest two years ago with two walk-off hits that helped Delgado win the Region XXIII Tournament.

“I still think about it every now and then. I got a lot of guys on that team that are still playing in this conference. That team was super, super good. And, a lot of guys from the Catholic League. So my friends and I’ve been friends with my whole life. I see those guys all the time and we still talk about how much fun we had that Region XXIII year and how talented we were, and how much fun we had. That was a special time here, and I’ll never forget those memories for sure,” said Southeastern senior Cole Stromboe.

Those unforgettable moments took place in Hammond, America, and they continue to occur At the Pat to this day.

Sunday against Lamar, Stromboe came up clutch again with a 2-run home run and a 2-RBI single to help Southeastern secure both the series and a 7-4 senior day win.

“Something about here. I don’t know what it is. It’s just the end of the game, I always feel like you got a chance to win. You know, we’d be down two runs, up two runs. Whatever it is. Just feel like always envisioning something good at this place. Every time I look in the outfield and I look out there, I imagine something good happening. You know, sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t. But forget about when it doesn’t happen, and when it happens, it is really special here,” said Stromboe.

Cole Stromboe’s big day at the plate helped Southeastern move closer to the top seed in the Southland Conference tournament.

Southeastern can clinch the one seed and a share of the Southland regular season championship with two wins over Nicholls in their upcoming series.

The Lions would be outright regular-season champs with a sweep.

“Everything from here on out it’s a championship game for us. You know this weekend’s big. We don’t want to be co-champs, we want to be champs,” added Stromboe.

Southeastern’s matchup with South Alabama Tuesday night was canceled because of weather. The Lions are back in action Thursday night at 6 p.m. in game one against Nicholls.
