Accused killer who stole Air Jordans at gunpoint gets 70-month sentence

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man who stole a pair of Air Jordan sneakers at gunpoint in 2023 received a 70-month sentence last week, the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office said.

Martel Mason, 27, pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Due to a plea agreement, other charges Mason was facing were dismissed. In a separate case, Mason is facing first-degree manslaughter charges stemming from a deadly crash on Christmas Day in 2023.

The armed robbery took place on July 2, 2023, at an apartment near Clackamas Town Center.

“Mason demanded the man surrender his black-and-yellow Air Jordan 13 athletic shoes. The victim said Mason threatened to shoot him if he did not comply,” officials said. “The victim flagged down a nearby Clackamas County Sheriff’s Deputy and reported the crime. Deputies located Mason at an apartment near the shopping mall.”
