Three New Orleans sports broadcasting legends inducted into Loyola’s Den of Distinction

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Since its inception in 2012, the Den of Distinction has inducted only 22 outstanding alumni to come out of Loyola University’s Communication and Design program.

On Monday night three more were added: Ro Brown, Ken Trahan and WGNO’s very own Ed Daniels.

“It’s just an absolute blessing to know that the place that gave you the opportunity to do what I’ve done for a living thinks enough of you to give you this honor,” Den of Distinction inductee Trahan said.

“I’ve gotten a few honors in the last few years, and I’ve appreciated this one maybe a little more because Loyola did a lot for me in my career,” Den of Distinction inductee Brown said.

While the honor was sweet, the inductees say being honored together made the ceremony that much sweeter.

Daniels, Trahan and Brown met each other back at Loyola. Brown graduated in ’78 while Daniels and Trahan graduated in ’79. They’ve stayed close friends since then.

“If it was an individual honor, you’d appreciate it; but when I got the call saying it was the three of us together, it was incredible,” Trahan said.

“As they say, ‘Who would’ve thunk it?’ You know? When we were in the same classes 50 years ago in Loyola,” Brown said.

While Trahan and brown say they are blessed to receive the honor together, they could have only hoped Ed was with them as well. However, they say he was definitely not forgotten.

“It is bittersweet. I really miss him,” Brown said.

“I’m here for Ed. He’s my best friend, and I love him,” Trahan said.

In Ed’s stead, his wife, Robin Daniels, accepted his award. While the moment wasn’t without tears, it was still one she will treasure forever.

“Oh, it’s wonderful. It’s very meaningful. It’s very touching. Especially alongside Ro and Kenny and I’m very glad his contributions are being recognized,” Robin Daniels said.
