Ochsner Lafayette General offering free physicals for Acadiana student-athletes

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Ochsner Lafayette General Sports Medicine will provide sports physicals at no cost for middle and high school student athletes.

The exams will be provided from 3-5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Bourgeois Hall, 225 Cajundome Blvd.

The event is open to all student-athletes across the Acadiana region, regardless of school affiliation, at no cost. Students do not need to attend a partnering school of Ochsner Lafayette General to participate.

Physicals will be provided at the following times:

  • 3 p.m. – Comeaux High School and Lafayette High School
  • Sponsored
  • 3:30 p.m. – Acadiana High School, Northside High School, and David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy
  • 4 p.m. – Southside High School and Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy
  • 4:30 p.m. – Carencro High School, Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy, Schools of Sacred Heart, and Lafayette Parish Public Middle Schools
  • 5 p.m. – Teurlings Catholic High School, Private Middle Schools, Westminster Christian Academy Lafayette, and Ascension Episcopal School
  • 5:30 p.m. – Acadia, St. Martin, and Vermilion Parish Public High and Middle Schools

Athletes are advised to arrive during their scheduled times, but no student athlete will be turned away if they arrive prior to 5:30 p.m.

Students are required to complete and bring the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s pre-participation medical evaluation form. Regardless of age, all students must have the form signed by a parent or guardian. 

The sports physicals will include:

  • Height and weight
  • Blood pressure and pulse check
  • Flexibility screening
  • General medical exam
  • Orthopedic exam

The physicals are valid for 13 months, ensuring coverage for the full school year.
