Chief Inspector Scott Small said just after 1:00 a.m., a 25-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were sitting in a parked Mercedes SUV near the intersection of Indiana and 22nd Streets when a gray or silver sedan pulled up next to their SUV and opened fire.
Police believe more than one weapon was used in the shooting. Investigators found at least 13 shell casings from a semi-automatic weapon, but more than 20 bullets pierced holes into the SUV on both the driver’s and passenger’s sides.
When first responders arrived, they found the man unresponsive suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police said he was shot once in the head and several times in the torso. The passenger was struck multiple times in both of her legs and feet.
The victims are in the hospital listed in critical condition.
Investigators are using surveillance footage captured on real-time crime cameras set up by Philadelphia police at the intersection. They’re also using video from exterior cameras of nearby businesses.
Police are searching for the gray of silver sedan that was last seen driving down Fox Street from 22nd Street.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
