Lawmakers introduce bills to make higher education more affordable

(WHTM) — Democrats from the State House and Senate renewed their calls to make higher education affordable.

They have reintroduced legislation they call the “Pennsylvania Promise,” a series of bills that would provide funding to students who come from families earning $110,000 or less.

“[The bills’ goals are] to remove the burden, to remove the hurdle of finance for anyone qualified, who wants to go on to higher education in any of our state schools or our state-related universities,” said Rep. Jordan Harris (D-Philadelphia).

The bills also provide funding for qualified students going to community college. Supporters of the Pennsylvania Promise have been introducing the legislation since 2018.
