Attempted murder charge filed against Bellwood man accused of shooting victim during argument on West Side

CHICAGO (WGN) — Felony charges have been filed against a Bellwood man accused of shooting another man during an argument over the weekend on the West Side.

According to Chicago police, 40-year-old James Hill has been charged with one felony count of attempted first-degree murder and one felony count of aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm.

Officers said the charges stem from Hill’s alleged role in a shooting which left a 35-year-old man injured.

The incident unfolded just before 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 4, in the 3800 block of West 14th Street, in North Lawndale, when officers said Hill got into an argument with the victim.

The altercation turned physical when Hill allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the other man in the leg.

The victim was later transported to the hospital, where he was listed in fair condition.

Hill was taken into custody less than 10 minutes after the alleged shooting. He is set to appear in court on Tuesday for a detention hearing.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the altercation and authorities have not provided updates on the victim’s condition.
