Alabama Department of Revenue warns of text scams

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Alabama Department of Revenue is warning residents of an ongoing text scam.

The release states the scams involve text messages claiming residents have unpaid tolls. The messages typically asks for you to click on a link beginning with “https://mydmv.alabama…” The department is imploring people to not click on the link. Doing so may take you to site that mimics the real ALDOR site and asks for your payment.

The department of revenue emphasized they do not collects tolls and they do not contact taxpayers through text messages.

The ALDOR asks residents to not respond to the message and promptly delete it.
