13-year-old charged with armed robbery of a Citgo gas station in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested a 13-year-old boy for allegedly robbing a Citgo gas station on Monday.

Around 7:10 p.m., authorities were called to the Citgo on North Rockton Avenue for reports of armed robbery.

The teen threatened an employee with a firearm after he was confronted for stealing items, officers reported.

The 13-year-old was later found near the gas station with the stolen goods and a loaded firearm.

He is charged with armed robbery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a firearm without a valid FOID.

The suspect was lodged in a juvenile detention center.
