North DeSoto softball defeats Assumption to claim Division II (NS) state title

SULPHUR, LA (KTAL/KMSS) — On Sunday, North DeSoto softball took on Assumption in the Division II non-select state championship game, and in walk-off fashion, secured the state title.

The Lady Griffins were first on the board, with Carsyn Curtis hitting a sac-fly to left, allowing Sasha Falls to tag up and make it to home, putting North DeSoto on the board first.

But Assumption answered, the Lady Mustang offense getting burning hot, with five runs in the second inning. North DeSoto was at a 5-1 deficit going into the bottom of the second.

The Lady Griffins did not let that deter them, coming up with two more runs in the second inning to keep it a close game at 5-3.

Going into the seventh, the Lady Griffins were down 5-4. Curtis hit a shot to shortstop, and the Lady Mustangs got the out at second, but not at home. Falls touched home once again, this time to tie the game.

Game tied, two outs, two runners on, a Kinsley Coleman bunt brought home Maddy Stringer, and North DeSoto secured the state title with a final score of 6-5.
