According to police, officers responded to a call of a domestic disturbance on the 10600 block of South LaSalle Street around 3:06 a.m. Monday, just about 30 minutes after COPA said investigators responded to a different officer-involved shooting on the South Side, according to its X feed.
Police said an off-duty officer was in the basement of the residence when he was alerted of the disturbance. The officer went upstairs and a confrontation with the offender occurred, during which the off-duty officer discharged his weapon and struck the offender.
The offender sustained gunshot wounds to the body and was immediately rendered aid by responding officers, then transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition.
Two firearms were recovered on the scene. The specifics of this shooting are being investigated by the COPA with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department.
The officer(s) involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days.
