ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Kyle McAlister and Miguel Espinoza may be heading to a runoff in the race for Place 5 on the Abilene City Council.

During the election on May 3, 2025, voters had the opportunity to select one of three candidates to represent Place 5: Miguel Espinoza, Cynthia Alvirdrez, and the incumbent, Kyle McAlister.

According to the unofficial results, McAlister received 2,591 votes, followed by Espinoza with 2,237 votes and Alvirdrez with 377 votes.

Since McAlister and Espinoza could not obtain 50% of the votes, the Taylor County Elections Office is reviewing the results to determine if a runoff is necessary.

If the vote margin remains narrow after the official canvass, a runoff election will be called.
