BATON ROUGE, La. (
Louisiana First) — The East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office is investigating after a possible drowning in the Central area on Saturday, May 3.
First responders said they were dispatched to the Frenchtown Road BREC Conservation Area around 5:15 p.m. in connection with the incident.
The Central Fire Department confirmed a man’s body was recovered around 7 p.m. from the Amite River at the conservation area. The victim went to the river and never resurfaced, according to the officials at the scene.
A second person was rescued, EMS added.
Multiple agencies helped with the investigation, including the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, the East Side Dive Team, the St. George Dive Team, the Central Police Department, and the Central Dive Team.
The victim’s identity has not been released at this time.
