CPD said the man led officers on a short chase in the stolen vehicle before crashing into a fire hydrant. The man then leapt into someone’s backyard to make a clean escape when he was found by officers wrapped tight in the trash bin.
“That’s not Oscar the Grouch hiding in the trash can — it’s Patrick Brown,” said Concord PD in a social media post, identifying the suspect. “Officers quickly found him tucked inside a garbage can, where the only thing he was recycling was bad decisions.”
Police did not provide a time and location of the incident
Brown was arrested on several charges and booked into Contra Costa County jail.
Concord police thanked the Contra Costa County Water District for its quick assistance in shutting off the water from the struck hydrant.
