Lawrence County Sheriff Ryan Everett said deputies responded to a burglary call on QD Smith Lane on May 1. During the investigation, deputies received information and noticed suspicious activity at a residence that was supposed to be unoccupied.
Everett said deputies made contact with Isaiah Dajion Herring, of Columbia, and an unidentified woman.
During the investigation, Everett said deputies discovered that Herring had held the woman captive for the past several days and subjected her to inhumane treatment. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Herring was charged with kidnapping, attempted murder, first-degree murder (unborn child) and burglary of a dwelling.
