According to a press release, the program is developed to meet the increasing demand for fiber optics technicians. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on training in:
Students may be eligible for financial assistance through the MJ Foster Promise Program and other scholarship opportunities. Successful completion of the program will grant students a $200 completion stipend.
“We are excited to bring our fiber optics training program to the Natchitoches and Sabine Valley region,” said Quentin Calhoun, Dean of Business and Information Technology (BIT). “This short-term credential prepares students for high-demand jobs with companies like AT&T and others in the telecommunications field. With financial support options and the opportunity to earn up to six industry-recognized certifications, this program offers a fast and affordable path to employment.”
The course will launch as a Career and Technical Certificate (CTC) starting May 13 and can be completed within four weeks. Classes will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at BPCC’s Natchitoches campus, 6587 Highway 1 Bypass in Natchitoches.
