BPCC Natchitoches launching new fiber optics certification program

NATCHITOCHES (KTAL/KMSS) — Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) is launching a new Fiber Optics Technology program to give students in-demand technical skills for careers in the fiber optics industry.

According to a press release, the program is developed to meet the increasing demand for fiber optics technicians. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on training in:

  • Fiber splicing, termination, and connectorization
  • Testing and troubleshooting fiber optic cables
  • Installation and maintenance of fiber optic systems for both outside plant environments and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) applications

Students may be eligible for financial assistance through the MJ Foster Promise Program and other scholarship opportunities. Successful completion of the program will grant students a $200 completion stipend.

“We are excited to bring our fiber optics training program to the Natchitoches and Sabine Valley region,” said Quentin Calhoun, Dean of Business and Information Technology (BIT). “This short-term credential prepares students for high-demand jobs with companies like AT&T and others in the telecommunications field. With financial support options and the opportunity to earn up to six industry-recognized certifications, this program offers a fast and affordable path to employment.”
