RPD swore in 10 new officers, promoted 1 sergeant

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Rockford Police Department added 10 new officers to its ranks and promoted one sergeant on Friday.

The department held the swearing-in ceremony at Rockford University’s Burpee Center.

One of Rockford’s new patrol officers is Tyler Givens, and he said that after a long period of training, his dream is coming true.

“You start with a written exam, then you meet with the commissioners for the fire and the police department, you do an interview there, you know, the physical testing and everything like that,” said Givens. “But, I just kinda leaned on my family and the people around me, had a good support system, and now I’m here.”

Traffic Investigator Andrew Harper, the sergeant who was promoted, has been serving with the RPD since 2007.
