Shelley woman charged after she allegedly attempted to shoot a man

Adriana C. Solis | Bingham County Jail

SHELLEY — A local woman was arrested after police reviewed video footage showing she allegedly tried shooting a man in the back after a dispute.

Adriana Solis is charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor obstructing an officer.

According to court documents, on April 15, an officer with the Shelley Police Department was dispatched to a call of a woman reporting a man breaking into her window.

The call disconnected and the dispatcher attempted to reconnect, according to court documents.

The call was made from an apartment at the 300 block of West Maple Street, and upon the officer’s arrival, items were scattered throughout the parking lot.

The officer made contact with a man whose nose was bleeding and crying.

The man told the officer, “he was done.”

The document states that the officer contacted Solis, who claimed she never called 911. However, the dispatcher advised the officer that the number was returned to Solis.

She continued to deny she had ever called 911 and refused to talk with the officer.

The next day, officers reviewed security camera footage from the night of the incident, which showed the man and Solis arguing.

The document states that the man is seen attempting to leave the residence on the video. Solis runs out of the apartment, gets into the man’s vehicle and throws clothes and other items out.

This occurred at 10:30 p.m., and the man began to pick up the items with his back facing the apartment.

Solis went back into the apartment and came out with a handgun in her right hand, the video showed.

The document states Solis is seen pointing the gun at the man’s back and starts to manipulate the gun’s slide.

She is later seen attempting to fire the gun, but the magazine falls out. Solis picks up the magazine, puts it back into the gun, and starts manipulating the slide again.

The video shows the woman walking back into her apartment, and the man continues picking up his stuff.

Solis is seen walking back out with the gun, and takes the keys out of the vehicle. The man finishes putting his items back in the car and returns to the apartment.

The court document does not state how the man’s nose got bloody or what happened after he returned to the apartment.

The aggravated assault charge, according to the complaint, was for Solis allegedly aiming and attempting to fire the gun at the man.

Solis was placed under arrest, and a search warrant was issued for any firearms within the apartment.

Three magazines for a 9mm handgun were found with 31 rounds, but no pistol was recovered.

Solis is scheduled to appear before Magistrate Judge James Howard Barrett Jr. at 8:30 a.m. on May 1.

If found guilty, she could face up to six years in prison. An enhancement was also filed for the use of a deadly weapon, which carries the potential of adding up to 15 years on top of the sentence.

Though Solis has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean she committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story referenced from court documents that a handgun was found at during the search of the Soli’s residence. Shelley Police reached out, informing us that no pistol was found, but just the magazines. EastIdahoNews.com apologizes for the error.
