Authorities identified the skeletal remains as Gabrielle Makenna Shull from Alpine, according to a Wednesday press release. Shull was 24 years old when she went missing in January 2024.
Her disappearance prompted many searches in and near Lambert Park, but despite reports that she may have been sighted in the Traverse Mountain area, she was not found at the time. Lambert Park encompasses 255 acres of land and is largely undeveloped. It is mostly used for biking, camping, hiking, and riding horses.
On Friday, April 25, police investigated after receiving a report that remains were found. They sectioned off the area to safely recover her remains. While the cause of her death is still under investigation, police say foul play is not suspected.
“Our thoughts are with Gabbie’s family at this terribly difficult time,” the department said.
Shull’s family said at the time of her disappearance that she left without her wallet, backpack, or laptop. Volunteers, authorities, and search dogs combed through the Alpine and Highland areas, particularly focusing on Lambert Park.
The family released a statement after her remains were identified over a year later saying her “sweet personality has been and will continue to be greatly missed.”
“Our family is so grateful her remains were found and also to the many, many people who helped in trying to find her,” her family said.
