House Bill 590, authored by Rep. Annie Spell (R-Lafayette), is part of a package of voter protection bills publicly backed by Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry.
Landry actively supports the measures through media interviews and testifying before House committees during the regular legislative session. She said the bills aim to protect voters and improve election integrity in the state.
HB 590 would prohibit the use of funds, goods, or services donated by a foreign government, foreign entity, or noncitizen to promote a ballot proposition or question, a candidate, or a political party.
The bill cleared the House Committee on Governmental Affairs on April 23 with amendments and is now scheduled to be debated in the full House on Monday.
