One Kentucky businesswoman has put her own spin on things by creating custom, handcrafted men’s ties from her Louisville home.
Elizabeth Peake, owner and designer of Peake Ties, has been stitching together stylish ties since 2010. What began as a handmade Christmas gift, a bow tie for a friend, has grown into a thriving business specializing in unique, personalized neckwear for all occasions.
“I’ve been able to sew since I was a kid,” Peake said. “As I got older, I realized I wanted to make things for a living. So I realized sewing was my perfect outlet for that.”
Today, Peake Ties is a go-to company for derby goers, prom dates, and wedding parties looking to stand out. Peake offers a range of options from bow ties made with custom derby-themed fabric and patterns to wedding ties created with input from couples wanting to match their theme.
“We actually design our own fabric. You’re not going to find these pieces anywhere else,” Peake said.
Peake said living in Kentucky gives her an inside edge on what locals want. Some examples include mint juleps, horses, fun color combinations, and even a personal touch. She’s even crafted ties to match a horse owner’s racing colors.
“I don’t want people to look like everyone else. I always have what I want, and especially living here, I know what people are looking for for the derby,” Peake said.
With returning customers and more and more people looking for the perfect tie, Peake’s ties have become far beyond the derby.
