Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called shortly after 2 p.m. to the 2900 block of Rolling Dunes Drive in response to a report of a vehicle accident. IMPD said the run was later upgraded to a possible person shot while officers were en route.
IMPD said officers arrived on the scene and found the victim slumped over a steering wheel inside a vehicle and suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. As of this article’s publication, IMPD has not provided any suspect information.
IMPD PIO Tommy Thompson said detectives will remain on the scene for the next several hours, where they will continue collecting possible evidence, reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with potential witnesses.
IMPD added that this appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no active threat to the public. Thompson could not confirm if the victim was driving when he was fatally shot, saying detectives were too early in their investigation to comment on that.
