RIVERSIDE, Ill. — April 30, 2025
As debates intensify over the future of American libraries, the EveryLibrary Institute is launching a virtual celebration aimed at uniting readers, authors, and library advocates across the country. Titled “Summer Reads 2025: A Book Bash for All Ages,” the two-day online event will take place May 5–6 with live sessions at 5 p.m., 7 p.m., and 9 p.m. EDT each evening.
The festival will feature 12 author panels with prominent names such as Neal Shusterman, Sandra Brown, Jami Attenberg, Rochelle Alers, Joe Finder, and Sara Rosett. Supported by major publishers including HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Hachette, the event emphasizes a positive theme: celebrating the joy of reading, storytelling, and the essential role libraries play in communities.
Attendees can join live via EveryLibrary’s Facebook and YouTube channels or watch recordings later. Registration is available at everylibrary.org/summer_2025_authors_everylibrary_live.
The event comes as EveryLibrary also raises alarms over Project 2025, a sweeping policy plan linked to the Trump administration that critics warn could drastically reshape public institutions—including libraries. The organization recently issued a report detailing how Project 2025 threatens funding, access to materials, and intellectual freedom in libraries across the U.S.
“Summer Reads 2025 is our way of reminding the public what’s at stake,” said EveryLibrary Executive Director John Chrastka. “Libraries are more than shelves of books—they are cornerstones of democracy, literacy, and community.”
EveryLibrary, a political action committee dedicated to building voter support for libraries, is urging readers and advocates to stay engaged in the ongoing fight for library funding and freedom of information.
