‘Cinco de Miler 5-Mile Run’ returns to Chicago’s North Side this weekend

The Cinco de Miler 5-Mile Run returns on Saturday for the 15th year and it is taking runners on a lakeside journey on Chicago’s North Side.

The race kicks off at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and participants will get exclusive swag and bottle opener finisher’s medal.

The route for the run is a USATF-certified 5-mile course that starts along Simmonds Drive next to Montrose Beach and takes runners north past Foster Avenue and Hollywood Beach before looping back toward Montrose Beach Park.

But once runners cross the finish line, beneath a three-story piñata arch, the real party begins at the Cinco de Miler Cantina.

Runners will get one complimentary beer or Mexican Mule, and can take a moment to relax with lawn games and a live mariachi band. The cantina will also be serving up burritos and horchata.

Registration for the run costs $59, and participants must be at least eight years or older on race day.

The event is one of several Cinco de Mayo celebrations happening around Chicagoland this weekend, however, the annual parade on the city’s West Side was canceled due to fears over fears over the Trump administration’s immigration policies and their impact on the community.
