Woman tried to stab 2 Keizer officers while being arrested, jury finds

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A woman was convicted of trying to stab a pair of Keizer police officers while being arrested last year, the Marion County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

Brandi Cortes, 41, was found guilty of two counts of second-degree attempted assault, assaulting an officer, attempted assault of an officer and two counts of fleeing.

“The charges result from a July 28, 2024, incident where Cortes eluded law enforcement and attempted to stab two Keizer police officers with a knife upon her arrest,” officials said. “Officers Jeremie Fletcher and Cody Stupfel were wearing ballistics vests during the incident and were ultimately not injured by Cortes’ knife. However, Officer Fletcher sustained a sprained wrist effectuating her arrest.”

Cortes is scheduled to be sentenced on May 8.
