Stolen vehicle chase in Port Allen leads to crash, sheriff says

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (WBRSO) is investigating a police chase that led to a crash on Tuesday, April 29.

According to officials, deputies tried to stop a vehicle that was reported stolen on Louisiana Highway 1, near American Way, shortly after 4 p.m.

The driver of the stolen vehicle initially complied but then drove away, taking deputies on a chase headed north. During the chase, a juvenile passenger exited the moving vehicle and was apprehended by deputies. The driver hit an unmarked WBRSO vehicle while trying to avoid a spike strip, according to law enforcement.

Deputies said the chase ended in the 4100 block of River Road. The driver was taken into custody.

No further details were immediately available. This is an ongoing investigation.
