Serious crash involving pedestrians near University of Delaware

NEWARK, Del. (WPHL) — A serious crash involving pedestrians has shut down a busy street near the University of Delaware.

According to the Newark Police Department, the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Main Street and Haines Street.

Main Street is closed near South Chapel Street due to the crash. Police are asking motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes, as police expect the roadway to be closed for an “extended period of time.”

The circumstances surrounding the crash are unknown.
