Police: Woman purposely lights Rockford Housing Authority apartment on fire

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Nuri George, 27, on charges of arson.

On March 30, around 9 a.m., Rockford Fire was called to a Rockford Housing Authority apartment complex at 602 South New Towne Drive. George was still inside the home during the fire and was rescued soon after.

Fire investigators determined that the blaze had several origin points.

A tenant showed officials footage of George staging the apartment to light it on fire, according to court records.

George was taken to Swedish American Hospital for serious injuries. The blaze displaced a family of four.

Rockford Fire estimated the damages to the apartment to be $40,000.
