Parking and driving restrictions announced for Philly May Day Rally

(WPHL) — The City of Philadelphia has announced a list of road closures and parking restrictions ahead of the May 1, May Day Rally.

On May 1 from 4 to 6 p.m., the Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO will be organizing a “May Day Rally: Workers Over Billionaires”, located in the north apron of City Hall.

City officials say, “Significant traffic delays can be expected during the course of this event.”

Road Closures 

The following streets will be closed for the rally starting at approximately 3:15 p.m. until approximately 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 1: 

  • John F. Kennedy Boulevard between Juniper Street and 15th Street 
  • North Broad Street between John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Arch Street 
  • Juniper Street between John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Market Street 

The following streets are expected to be closed for a scheduled march starting at approximately 5 p.m. until approximately 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 1: 

  • John F. Kennedy Boulevard between 15th Street to Juniper Street 
  • 15th Street from John F. Kennedy Boulevard to South Penn Square 
  • Market Street from 16th Street to 15th Street 
  • South Penn Square from 15th Street to Juniper Street 
  • South Broad Street from Chestnut Street to South Penn Square 
  • Juniper Street from South Penn Square to John F. Kennedy Boulevard 
  • Market Street from Juniper Street to 13th Street 
  • North Broad Street from John F. Kennedy Boulevard to Vine Street 
  • Includes closures of cross streets 

Parking Restrictions 

Motorists should take notice and must adhere to posted “Temporary No Stopping/Parking” signs. Vehicles parked in these locations during posted hours will be relocated. If you believe your car has been relocated, call the police district of the area where your car was parked. 

Public Transportation 

SEPTA Bus Routes 4, 16, 17, 31, 32, 33, 38, 44, 48, 62, 124, and 125 will be detoured from their normal routes through the Center City area beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1 through approximately 7 p.m. Detours will be posted, and specific route changes are available on the System Status Page at www.septa.org and @SEPTA on X.
