More storms are possible on Thursday

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The storms that will impact the NW part of the ArkLaTex Wednesday night will weaken late Wednesday night.  They will likely strengthen over the southeast half of the area on Thursday. Severe weather will be possible, but the risk will be lower.

SPC Outlook:  Thursday’s severe weather outlook from the Storm Prediction Center shows a level one marginal risk as of this writing.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see a slight risk that includes the southeast part of the area by the time we get to Thursday.

How worried am I about severe weather?  If we do have severe weather on Thursday, I don’t think it will be as widespread as what could occur Wednesday night.  Our main issues on Thursday will be wind and some hail.  The tornado risk will be very low, but not zero.  My level of worry on a scale of 1 to 10 is 4.

How much rain?   Futurecast shows that we could see another swath of very heavy rain over the eastern part of the ArkLaTex from late Wednesday night through Thursday night.  Here, anywhere from two to four inches of rain will be possible.  The rest of the area will likely see less than an inch of additional rainfall. 

10-day Outlook:  . A cold front will move through the area on Friday and bring one final round of scattered showers and thunderstorms.  Behind this front, we will see a rather pleasant weekend as drier air moves in.  Daytime highs this weekend will be in the low 80s. Overnight lows will dip into the 50s by the end of the weekend. The dry weather will continue into next week, as our next chance of rain will likely hold off until the last half of next week.
