Monday almanac: Temperatures soar to warmest levels in nearly 7 months

What a day!! Temperatures soared to 2025’s highest levels so far and the warmest readings in nearly seven months, since early October of last year. 

The 85 degree Midway Airport high temperature established a new record for April 28, eclipsing the old record of 84-degrees set in 1951. 

The warmth occurred with abundant sunshine and gusty southerly winds that helped pump in the July-level temperatures, more than 20 degrees above normal.

Mid-afternoon temperature snapshot tells the story! Temperatures were significantly warmer than the same time on Sunday with winds that were gusting to nearly 40 mph.

The unseasonable warmth dominated the weather scene across the eastern two thirds of the U.S. Monday with highs above 70degrees for more than 278 million people and nearly 122 million enjoying 80 degrees or warmer temperatures.
