Astute fans of the Utah Hockey Club may have caught a glimpse of the team’s new name on YouTube before the channel was completely taken down by Wednesday morning.
The channel, which originally operated under the name “@UtahHockeyClub,” briefly changed its name to “@UtahMammoth.” The club’s other social media channels, including X and Instagram, remained @UtahHockeyClub.
Hours later, a search for Utah Hockey Club’s YouTube channel returns a “404 Not Found” error, saying the “page isn’t available.” Meanwhile, a search for a channel belonging to Utah Mammoth returns an unbranded channel with less than 100 subscribers as of 9 a.m.
Of course, this slight slip-up does not confirm that the official name of the Utah Hockey Club will be the Utah Mammoth, but it could be a strong indicator. Mammoth was one of three finalists presented to fans toward the end of the Utah Hockey Club’s inaugural season, along with the current name and Utah Outlaws.
We’re fully on track to announce a name and identity ahead of the 2025-26 NHL season.
Mike Maughan, Smith Entertainment Group executive
Mike Maughn, an executive with the Smith Entertainment Group, which owns the Utah Hockey Club, neither confirmed nor denied that Utah Mammoth would be the final name for the team. When asked by ABC4.com, he said SEG is continuing progress on exploring all three of the name options that were chosen as finalists by fans, and the club was on track to have a permanent name ahead of the team’s second season.
“We look forward to sharing that with our fans when we do,” said Maughan.
