Broussard couple arrested on drug and weapons charges

BROUSSARD, La. (KLFY) — A Broussard couple was arrested after a search of their home yielded a wide variety of illegal drugs, authorities said.

Brandon Green, 39, and Shalamekia Cormier, 36, were charged with the following:

  • 2 counts of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine
  • 1 count of possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine
  • 1 count of possession with the intent to distribute MDMA pills
  • 1 count of possession with the intent to distribute MDMA powder
  • 1 count of possession of hydrocodone
  • 1 count of possession of oxycodone
  • 1 count of possession of marijuana
  • 2 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia
  • 1 count of transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses
  • 1 count of possession of a firearm in the presence of drugs
  • 3 counts of possession of drugs in the presence of a juvenile

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle Tuesday night in which Green and Cormier were traveling for a traffic violation in the 6800 block of Johnston Street in Lafayette. During the traffic stop, agents discovered drugs and paraphernalia, officials said.

This resulted in a search warrant for the couple’s residence in the 100 block of Weeping Willow Blvd. in Broussard. The ensuing search yielded over 2.8 lbs. of powdered cocaine, 8 grams of crack cocaine, 715 MDMA pills, 3.4 grams of MDMA powder, 1.5 grams of marijuana, 2 oxycodone pills, 2 hydrocodone pills, a firearm, a digital scale and an undisclosed amount of cash, authorities said.

Green and Cormier were booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center where they are being held without bond, according to jail records.

No further information is available. This case remains under investigation.
