The Equal Protection Project, which is a national organization claiming that it opposes race-based affirmative action initiatives, is the group accusing the university that its Norton-Textra Endowed Scholarship for Minority Students in English is discriminatory.
The group filed the suit with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights last week. As of Saturday, the scholarship only lists enrollment and GPA requirements for the award.
Also, President Donald Trump’s administration is reviewing the University of Alabama at Birmingham over its alleged race-based scholarships. Other universities around Alabama recently closed its diversity, equity and inclusion offices and buildings in response to a state law banning DEI programs.
