Son of Steelers running backs coach invited to Steelers Rookie Minicamp

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (BLACK AND GOLD NATION) – The Pittsburgh Steelers have been recently attracted to players with family connections to the team. After drafting the son of former Steelers first round pick Mark Bruener this past weekend, Pittsburgh doesn’t seem to be done adding to its recent trend.

On Monday, the Steelers invited Slippery Rock defensive back Eddie Faulkner IV to the team’s rookie minicamp as a tryout player. Faulkner IV is the son of Pittsburgh running backs coach Eddie Faulkner III.

“This is awesome for Eddie and for our program to have another guy getting a shot to experience an NFL minicamp,” SRU head coach Shawn Lutz said in a release. “Not only was Eddie an excellent player that did it all for us on the field over the last four years, he was also an Academic All-American that excelled in the classroom and represented the true meaning of a student-athlete.”

Faulkner IV spent the past four years as a safety for The Rock, totaling 160 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, seven sacks, five interceptions and 17 passes defended. In 2023, he earned All-America honors.

His father is entering his sixth season as the Steelers running backs coach. After his college career wrapped up, he spent training camp with the black and gold back in 2001 as an undrafted free agent.

Both will be participating in one way or another during rookie minicamp, which is set to begin May 9.
