Rideshare, food delivery drivers targeted in series of robberies on West Side, CPD says

CHICAGO (WGN) — Chicago police on Monday warned the public about a series of robberies that occurred over the weekend on the city’s West Side.

According to the department, robbers are targeting rideshare and food delivery drivers.

CPD says since Friday, April 25, a group of up to three men has targeted drivers in the 300 block of South Whipple St. in East Garfield Park. CPD also believes the group committed a robbery in the 3000 block of W. Jackson Blvd., which is also in East Garfield Park.

All told, police report a total of four robberies, with the most recent incident occurring on Sunday.

Dates and times of incidents include:

  • 300 block of S. Whipple Ave on April 25 at 4:51 p.m.
  • 300 block of S. Whipple Ave on April 25 at 8:47 p.m.
  • 3000 block of W. Jackson St on April 26 at 3:00 p.m.
  • 300 block of S. Whipple Ave on April 27 at 4:52 p.m.

Authorities described the suspects as three males, aged 16-20 years, who stood no taller than 5 feet 9 inches. Police add that one of the offenders has a tattoo above the right eyebrow.
