Relative of Alabama sheriff accused of stealing guns from department

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A relative of the Geneva County sheriff has been arrested after state investigators claimed he stole weapons.

Public court records show Cody Johnson, 24, was arrested April 17 and charged with five counts of theft of property.

According to a law enforcement complaint, Johnson is accused of stealing rifles, pistols and shotguns from the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office. Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms said he is related to Johnson.
