Man admits to killing Mississippi woman, attacking another
Man admits to killing Mississippi woman, attacking another
AMORY, Miss. (WJTV) – A man pled guilty to killing a North Mississippi woman in 2021 and to attacking another woman two years after the homicide.

District Attorney Jason Herring, with the First Circuit Court District, said Darcus Neely pled guilty on April 28, 2025, to the capital murder of Judy Baxter,

77, which occurred on August 12, 2021, in Amory. He also pled guilty to burglarizing Baxter’s home.

In a separate case, Neely pled guilty to attacking a woman on October 19, 2023, in Amory. He was charged with two counts of battery, burglary of a dwelling and attempted murder.

Following Neely’s pleas, a judge sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole for capital murder, which will run consecutive with a combined 148 years for the other crimes.

The cases were investigated by the Amory Police Department with assistance from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) and other law enforcement agencies.
