Employee shot, killed at Austin grocery store

CHICAGO — An employee was shot and killed Tuesday morning at a grocery store in Austin.

At around 11:35 a.m., at least one gunman entered Sanford Foods, located in the 500 block of North Laramie.

An employee, a 32-year-old man, behind the meat counter was shot and struck in the head and body, according to CPD and 37th Ward Ald. Emma Mitts. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Mitts told WGN News she believes the shooting was targeted and not an attempted robbery.

No one is in custody and a large police presence remains at the store as of Tuesday afternoon.
