Man, 27, dies in South Shore apartment fire overnight, Chicago police say

CHICAGO — A 27-year-old man died in an apartment fire in the city’s South Shore neighborhood overnight, according to Chicago police.

Police say that around 3:30 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a call of an apartment fire in the 7800 block of S. South Shore Drive, where Chicago Fire Department personnel were already on scene extinguishing a fire.

The 27-year-old man was discovered unresponsive on the third floor of the building, according to police, and was treated by CFD, but he was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

CFD is handling the investigation of the fire.
