Long-distance run ends in South Bay search-and-rescue
(KRON) — A runner got lost Sunday night in the South Bay and became stranded on an old levee, according to the San Jose Fire Department. A search and rescue operation located the individual after he was lost for several hours.

The runner, who started his trek in Mountain View, got lost in the Alviso area of North San Jose, the San Jose Police Department said. The department’s AIR3 helicopter crew used thermal imaging to find the individual off the main slough trail.

The runner was found in the darkness near a 10-foot cliff, and the aircrew alerted him of the dangerous edge while illuminating the area, SJPD said.

A SJFD rescue boat team reached the lost runner at the levee where he boarded and was returned to shore. The individual was evaluated by crews on the mainland shore.
