IU Issues Crime Notice After Series of Reported Burglaries on Bloomington Campus

Written from crime notice

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University officials issued a crime notice Friday night following reports of multiple burglaries at campus residence halls and a fraternity house between April 14 and April 23, 2025.

According to the IU Police Department (IUPD), four separate burglaries were reported during the period. The incidents occurred at Eigenmann Hall, Collins Residence Hall, and the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity house.

In the first report, a student reported on April 16 that a chair and television had been stolen from their locked room in Eigenmann Hall during the afternoon of April 14. Two days later, another resident of Eigenmann Hall reported that a purse and perfume had been stolen from their locked room just before noon.

A third report, made on April 21, involved the theft of a wallet from a member of Alpha Sigma Phi. The theft is believed to have taken place between the evening of April 16 and the morning of April 17.

The most recent incident was reported on April 23, when a student at Collins Residence Hall reported their wallet stolen from their locked room in the afternoon.

IUPD said they currently have no known suspects but have developed a possible lead in the fraternity house case. Investigators believe there is no known connection between the burglaries at the fraternity and those at the residence halls.

Campus officials urged anyone with information to contact IUPD at 812-855-4111 or call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).

The university also issued a list of safety reminders for students, including locking doors and windows, keeping valuables out of sight, not lending keys or ID cards to strangers, and reporting suspicious activity immediately. Blue light emergency phones are available across campus for direct connection to IUPD.

The crime notice was issued in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
